About Me

As a North Carolina native James Bolt’s love for food and drink started at a young age. At 10 years old he knew he wanted to work among the industry’s best. After graduating from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY Bolt moved to Charleston to work at The Gin Joint. He had previously worked under Chef Sean Brock at McCrady’s to complete his formal schooling.

In 2017 Bolt took the jump from Beverage Director to Bar Owner. While he’s now the sole proprietor of the Gin Joint you can still find him behind the bar whipping up well-balanced concoctions. His ingredient-focused, culinary approach to cocktails brings unique creations to the ever-changing menu. James Bolt credits both CIA and his time at McCrady’s for his creative approach in crafting cocktails.

Bolt’s cocktails have been featured by Imbibe, Thrillist, The Local Palate, PUNCH, Liquor.com, Tales of the Cocktail and Bravo TV.
