About Me

At The Dewberry, Executive Chef Alex Ursprung leads the hotel’s acclaimed culinary program with a philosophy rooted in precision, creativity, and a deep respect for place. With more than a decade in New York City’s most celebrated kitchens—including Café Boulud, Craft, and the three-MICHELIN-starred Eleven Madison Park—Ursprung brings a modern sensibility to The Dewberry’s distinctly Charleston setting.

He is shaping a new era of culinary excellence—one defined by local partnerships, seasonal ingredients, and an unwavering commitment to craft. “Our goal is to continually refine and reimagine what dining at The Dewberry can be,” Ursprung says. “We want each experience—from a cocktail at Citrus Club to a multi-course dinner—to reflect the same care and character that define the hotel itself.”

Originally from Upstate New York, Ursprung’s career spans Michelin-starred restaurants and leadership roles with Hospitality Department in Manhattan. Now in Charleston, he channels that global perspective through a Southern lens—melding classical technique with the Lowcountry’s seafood and regional produce.

With Ursprung at the helm, The Dewberry continues its pursuit of excellence in every detail—celebrating a sense of place, a passion for hospitality, and the art of dining at its most elevated.
