About Me
Allison Anspach is the owner and head baker at Grit Bakery, a new bakery in Charleston specializing in sourdough breads and laminated pastries. She has been in the industry since 2014 and has worked in New Orleans, DC, and San Diego but now calls Charleston home.
Allison, a South Florida native, moved to Charleston from the West Coast in 2023 with her husband to be closer to her family. What started as a dream after her first bakery job upon graduating from Tulane University became a reality in April 2024 with the opening of Grit. She sees Grit as a neighborhood spot where people can come together over simple, well made, hand crafted baked goods. Whenever possible, she utilizes local produce from GrowFood Carolina, grains from Carolina Ground, and eggs from Storey Farms. Her menu reflects an appreciation for simple, seasonal pastries and breads.
