Felix McCray
He/him/hisAbout Me
Born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, Felix McCray’s love for cooking began at home, learning side by side with his grandmother as they baked fresh bread together. That early spark ignited a lifelong passion for food and hospitality.
Felix graduated from North Charleston High School and went on to study culinary arts at the Charleston Culinary Institute, where he built a strong foundation in technique and kitchen fundamentals. At just sixteen, he landed his first job in a restaurant — applying for a dishwasher position but quickly promoted to the cook’s line, where his natural talent and work ethic were immediately recognized.
Driven by a deep connection to Southern flavors and the joy of feeding others, Felix went on to open and operate his own restaurant, Mama’s Boy Takeout, from 2014 to 2018. Today, as Executive Chef of Virginia’s on King, he takes pride in showcasing elevated Southern cuisine, blending the comforting traditions of his upbringing with refined, creative techniques.
When he’s not in the kitchen, Felix enjoys exploring Charleston’s vibrant dining scene, drawing inspiration from the city’s diverse restaurants and ever-evolving culinary culture.
