About Me

Kendra and Josh grew up just down the street from each other in Fairfax, VA. They began dating while Josh was attending the College of Charleston, and after graduation they got married and moved around the country from Richmond to Austin for jobs and grad school.

But once the Lowcountry is in your blood it never leaves. Kendra and Josh started Barrier Island Oyster Company in 2015, after realizing they were tired of the traveling and were ready to come home to Charleston and put down roots.
They decided to take a chance on building a sustainable business they could share with their children while enriching Charleston’s proud coastal heritage and helping to protect the waterways that define our lives.

Since then, they’ve added three future oyster farmers to their growing family, along with a few dogs just to keep things interesting.
